Project "Conway" - porting QONQR for Huawei HMS

2020-07-23 07:14

So, we know that there is (or rather "was") the port of QONQR for Windows Phone, now obsolete and pretty much defunct, like OS.

Instead, I would propose to create a port for Huawei phones (mostly P30 and P40) who doesn't support GMS [Google Mobile Services]), and instead have their own HMS (Huawei Mobile Services; mandatory for these phones, optional for others, like my own Mate 9).

Such port would use the HMS Core for functionality, and would be published in Huawei AppStore.

Hello ShiMan,

I'm going to say porting to Conway will probably never happen. Android is a disaster for developers who are trying to build a stable product. Adding a second android platform would probably make me rage quit development.

One of the biggest reasons we need Google Play Services is some of the build-in anti-piracy and anti-hacking features we get access to. Although these are not a magic bullet to stop cheaters it has stopped many.

We did have a Windows Phone version. Windows Phone was key to our early success. However as time went on maintaining WP became as problematic as keeping Android from crashing. While I was sad the day I stopped using my Nokia 920, I didn't miss the pain of maintain a 3rd platform. I don't think I'll go back.

We evaluated the Amazon ecosystem when they released their phone. We decided against in for many of the same reasons. I believe we made the right choice.
